What is the difference between Crystalplus system and the traditional way of treating pool water?

Crystalplus system is a tested and approved product that was introduced on the market to fill a gap which currently available products have not been able to fill. Interviews with thousands of pool owners have allowed us to determine that problems occur during heat waves, among them: algae formation, instability in pH levels and questionable water clarity.

Crystalplus system works to fight off these problems by:

  • Controlling algae
  • Stabilizing pH levels
  • Clarifying water
  • Allowing you to use up to 50% less chlorine

All the ingredients that make up this tested and proven solution have been stabilized, calibrated and chosen specifically to:

  • Reduce amount of chlorine traditionally required to maintain pool water.
  • Eliminate the need for any other chemical product when treating pool water.
  • Crystalplus system is registered by Health Canada.

Can Crystalplus system also help me obtain higher water quality in my Jacuzzi or Spa?

Haven’t tried CrystalSPA yet?

A new formula, a different dosage, CrystalSPA will allow you to rediscover your spa:

  • Water so clear that it will appear … blue.
  • A more stable pH which will simplify maintenance. You have to try it!

Do not hesitate to write to us to obtain the address of the reseller closest to you.

Can I start using Crystalplus or CrystalSPA mid-season or if the water is slightly cloudy?

The products in the Crystalplus and CrystalSPA range are both gentle and highly effective. They can be used at any time in the pool or spa during the season.

  • They can also be used in water where many chemicals have been used.
  • They can also be used in the presence of large concentrations of chlorine, bromine or lithium.

In the case of swimming pools, if the usual parameters of pH, alkalinity and hardness have been checked, you can use a double dose of Crystalplus. Diluted in a bucket of warm water and dispersed in the pool water in front of the discharge nozzles, it will do wonders for quickly clarifying your water.

Refer to the usage section for more details.

Crystalplus system and CrystalSPA are perfectly compatible with all types of chlorine (stabilized or not), as well as with bromine, lithium and peroxide (OXY, MPS, active oxygen).

Are Crystalplus system and CrystalSPA compatible with different types of chlorine, bromine, peroxide and lithium?

Crystalplus system is compatible will all types of chlorine.

On the market, you will find the following types of chlorine:

  • Calcium hypochlorite
  • Sodium hypochlorite
  • Trichloro-s-triazinetrione
  • Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione

1. Calcium hypochlorite

Calcium hypochlorite is composed of white granules and has a strong chlorine odour. Developed by OLIN in 1928, this manufacturing process has provided for producing concentrated chlorine. This process was called “High Test Hypochlorite”. Nowadays, it is better known as its abbreviation, HTH.

  • Active strength: 65%
  • Available chlorine content: 65%
  • pH: 11

Advantages:

  • Easily handled
  • No significant storage decomposition

Disadvantages:

  • Raises pH
  • Chlorine residual in pool dissipates rapidly in sunlight
  • Can cause turbidity, scale, clogged filters if pH and/or T.A. are high

2. Sodium hypochlorite

Sodium hypochlorite is only stable as a solution. First produced in 1785 by bubbling chlorine gas into a solution of lye, in a chemical plant in Javel, France – hence the name “Javelle Water”. Often called by the misnomer “liquid chlorine”, it is sold under the brand Javex as laundry bleach. Pool chlorine bleach is double the strength of laundry bleach.

  • Active strength: 10.8% (12% commercial)
  • Available chlorine content: 10.3%
  • pH: 13

Advantages:

  • Completely miscible in water
  • As bulk liquid it is the least expensive source of chlorine sanitizer except for gas chlorine

Disadvantages:

  • Bulky and heavy to handle
  • Bleaches clothes, carpets, etc.
  • Raises pH
  • Significant decomposition in storage
  • High T.D.S.
  • Chlorine residual in pool dissipates rapidly in sunlight

3. Trichloro-s-triazinetrione

Sometimes called “trichlor” for brevity, this white granular powder is formulated into tablets when used for swimming pool application. Trichlor is the most active of pool chlorines. This property should be respected from both usage and storage standpoints.

  • Active strength: 100%
  • Available chlorine content: 90%
  • Stabilizer content: 56%
  • pH: 2,8

Advantages:

  • Easily handled
  • Slow-dissolving
  • Good for chlorinators
  • Chlorine residual stabilized

Disadvantages:

  • Reduces T.A.
  • Lowers pH
  • Readily supports combustion on contact

4. Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione

For brevity this white granular substance is called “dichlor” or “sodium dichlor”. It is also sold in dehydrated form. Much as stabilized tablets, it is popular on residential markets and is sold in many different-sized containers, under many brand names.

  • Active strength: 100%
  • Available chlorine content: 62%
  • Stabilizer content: 57%
  • pH: 6.7

Advantages:

  • Easily handled
  • Fast-dissolving
  • Little effect on pH
  • Chlorine residual stabilized

Disadvantages:

  • Most costly chlorine sanitizer

Should I overchlorinate my pool water?

Specialists recommend you overchlorinate your pool regularly. Trichlor chlorine users can benefit from overchlorination as it can periodically reactivate the stabilizer found in the pool water.

When?

  • Once a week.
  • It is suggested that you overchlorinate following hot weather spells or overuse of the pool.
  • Overchlorination does not affect the performance of Crystalplus system.

What is Health Canada's position with regard to copper-based pool products?

The following Health Canada document highlights the advantages of copper sulphate algicides for swimming pool use

  • Control algae.
  • Improve water clarity.
  • Reduce the amount of chlorine or bromine-based products required.

They do not:

  • Control micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses.
  • Eliminate the need for sanitizers such as chlorine or bromine-based pool products.

Crystalplus system contains 4% copper. The copper is efficient and safe when used appropriately.

Do I need to use products other than Crystalplus system?

No additional products are required except for chlorine or bromine.

Keep in mind that the pool water quality levels may fluctuate and need special treatments especially when weather conditions are extreme.

The manual says to put 60 grams of the product per week, but the small measuring container included is graduated in ml, ounce and tablespoon ...

Measurers are not easy to read. One convention that Health Canada allows us to do is to equate ml = g. In your specific case, it is necessary to add two measuring spoons since each is 30ml.

If I buy it at the end of the season, will it store OK for the winter?

Yes, the product will be as efficient next season. Just make sure that like any other chemicals, the jar is tightly closed and out of reach of children.

Can we swim 4 hours after putting Crystalplus product in the pool?

Without any problem, and even before if it’s hot!

Crystalplus is a gentle product, not a shock treatment!

Is it true that the stabilized chlorine stabilizer (tablets / pucks) accumulates in my pool water?

Yes, the use of di-chlorine and tri-chor on a regular basis in the pool water increases the presence of stabilizer. It is cyanuric acid. It is an extremely stable residue that will not degrade over time.

Pool attendants suggest changing part of the pool water to remove a fraction.

We offer a modified and much more efficient version of this method.

Cyanuric acid is effective in preventing the sun (UV) from degrading chlorine too quickly. It is therefore about:

Let the pool water sit by stopping swimming and filtration (10-12 hours).
Attach one end of a garden hose to the ladder or other fixed object in the pool.
Adjust this end underwater to the depth chosen for draining the water.
Connect the other end to a tap to fill the hose. It will be full when the water flows into the pool.
Close the tap, unscrew and put the hose down.
Choose a low location and make sure not to flood the basement.
By gravity the water from the pool surface (the one that contains the highest concentrations of cyanuric acid) will be removed. Everything will stop at the depth you have chosen by fixing the hose in the pool. It will then be necessary to refill to restore the appropriate level in the pool before starting the filter.

Depending on the concentrations of cyanuric acid (stabilizer) present in the water, this operation may need to be repeated a few times during the season.

Finally, you will have understood that this method is effective, economical and safe to easily lower the level of the pool in the fall for wintering.

Can I use Crystalplus with a salt electrolysis system?

Yes. Crystalplus with a salt water system will act the same. Crystal clear water, softer and algae free PLUS as a side effect, the electrodes ($) of your system will last longer !

I am currently using ChrystalineH2O and the chlorine economy comes from keeping chlorine at 0.6 instead of 1.5 Do I have to do the same? If not, where does the chlorine economy come from?

The chlorine savings (even greater with Crystalplus) do not come from the level of chlorine you put in your pool but from its greater efficiency.

  • Crystalplus stabilizes the pH, chlorine in water maintained at the appropriate pH can double its effectiveness. Remember that the reverse is true …
  • Crystalplus controls algae (even invisible to the eye), so there is no need for chlorine to oxidize them (additional savings).
  • The remarkable clarifying effect of Crystalplus greatly increases the efficiency of the filter which will have a direct effect on the consumption of chlorine.

Health Canada recommends keeping a concentration of SAFE chlorine in the pool. The water should NOT contain bacteria.

Remember that this amount will vary a lot according to the sunshine, the water temperature and last but not least the number of bathers.

Are you planning to invite a football team or are you swimming alone? Whatever you do, whatever the temperature or the season, in the presence of much or very little chlorine, the water will always be clearer with Crystalplus than with the first generation product.

Is Crystalplus compatible with a liner pool and a cartridge filtration system?

Yes, Crystalplus can be used with any type of filtration system. In the case of a cartridge system, crystalplus will have to be added directly into the pool. (in front of the jets)
